Need To Change Your Wordpress Domain and Include All Your Posts?

Posted by nicki in wordpressBlogging

There are many, many Wordpress users out there. Today I was approached by Theresia Whitfield of Fletcher Communications on  Smaller Indiana. She had an existing Wordpress blog that she wanted to change the name and URL of. I've got very little experience with Wordpress, but I do maintain a couple of WP blogs, so I decided I'd give it a whirl. With the help of the wonderful Google, I was able to find enough information to get it done for her.

First, what you will need to do is login into WP. Then create a new WP blog. Once you do that, head to your blog dashboard.  Select the blog that you are wanting to transfer from the "My Dashboard" dropdown menu.

On the left panel you'll see a list of links. From this section, click Tools, then Export. On theExport page, click the "Download Export File" button. Save the file to your desktop or a location that you will be able to easily locate.

Now, click on the Import button button in the Tools section. Click the Wordpress link, browse your files, select the file that you just exported, and upload. The process will take approximately 2o seconds to complete.

Once the upload process finishes, the new WP blog that you just created will have your old posts, authors, and comments included!

If you need help getting through this process, feel free to drop me an email: nicki at squishdesigns dot com. Also, if you are looking for a new blogging solution, Squish offers a blogging system that is very easy to use and integrates into your website, just like the one you're reading now!
