Websites on Mobile Devices

Posted by nicki in websitestechnologymobile webaccessibility

Like many busy people, I love the convenience of having the internet on my SmartPhone. I use the Opera browser to access the internet from my AT&T Moto Q9. Other things that I use my phone for are texting, Instant Messaging, staying up to date on my Twitter account via ceTwit, GPS, and searching for businesses and shopping near me.

When looking for the nearest Steak & Shake location, I type in www.steaknshake.com, wait for the site to load, and wait, and wait.... And I finally get the site.  When it finally loads, I have to jump through several hoops to get to the function that I want; the location nearest me.

This led me to post this blog. How many websites are out there that have not yet made the jump to offer a mobile version that is easily accessible and quick to open in mobile devices? If your company is one of them, please ask yourselves these two questions:

Why aren't we offering a mobile version of our website?

How many potential clients/customers are we losing because they can't easily access our site via their mobile device?

According to a recent study by Knowledge Networks,  nearly 60% of mobile device users carry their devices with them at all times. Also, a direct quote from the survey:

"The study, “How People Use Cell Phones,” finds that - in addition to being used for traditional communication, such as conversation, texting and email - mobile phones are playing an increasingly important role in shopping decisions, as entertainment hubs, for general-purpose research and for GPS-type functions."

With these figures, how can you afford not to have a mobile website? We can help. Contact us today.
